 Thomas Robert Simpson is an award-winning actor, director, producer, and writer. He is the Founder and Artistic Director of the award-winning AfroSolo Theatre Company, celebrating its twenty-fifth anniversary this year. Through solo performances and plays such as, "Still Heading fo’ da’ Promised Land," "There is No Hatred Here," "COURAGE UNDER FIRE: The Story of Elroy," and others,Thomas focuses on giving an authentic voice to the black male experience. In chronicling these stories and the lives portrayed, he endeavors to counter the stereotyped depiction these men often receive.   


  

"25 Years of AfroSolo"

For a quarter-century, the AfroSolo Arts Festival has played an essential role in nurturing, promoting and presenting art and culture from the African Diaspora through presenting solo performances, the visual and literary arts, and community engagement. Production of the AfroSolo Theatre Company, the 25th AfroSolo Arts Festival, kicked off with a free jazz concert featuring an all-star quintet drawn from AfroSolo alumni. Tammy L Hall is one of this years features artist. We look forward to seeing you at the festival.

A Variety of Events

Thomas Simpson and AfroSolo Theatre Company produced art festivals based on themes relevant to Black African Americans for 25 years, addressing topics as: racism, civil rights, peace and health.  From 2006 and 2015 we organized an annual health fair attracting 1500+ people during the three-hour event.  Presented in collaboration with San Francisco’s MoMagic Back to School Celebration.

In 2014 we began an initiative entitled:  The Audacity to Succeed: Young Black Men and Boys Soaring to Success.  The goal of this initiative is to assist this population successfully transcend  youth to adulthood.

The Audacity to Succeed has three components: The Audacity to Succeed: Young Black Men and Boys Soaring to Success conferences where we bring elder black men together with young black men and boys to teach, mentor and support them in the areas for education, employment, financial responsibility and business enterprise skills.

 An anthology- Lighting The Path: Letter from Black Men to Young Black Men and Boys.  This will be a collection of letters providing information, resources and personal experiences to assist our youth move towards success.

3. Keys to Surviving A Police Stop: STOP. SHOW. CONTROL -  a guide towards surviving a Police Stop.


The AfroSolo Theatre Company is proud to be a member of the African American Theater for Independence Collaborative. This is an Alliance of like-minded Black Arts Organization working together to enhance the cultural landscape of the San Francisco Bay Area.  The members include:

African American Arts and Culture Complex, African American Shakespeare Company, AfroSolo Theatre Company, Cultural Odyssey, Lorraine Hansberry Theatre Company and Push Dance Company.
